Covid-19: Only 6 new infections recorded

Of the six, four are imported cases.

PETALING JAYA:
The number of Covid-19 cases has gone back to a single digit, after six new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said.

The new cases push the total number of infections to 9,360.

Of the six new cases, two were local transmissions involving Malaysians, while four were imported cases, involving foreigners, namely three Indonesians and a Syrian.

Of the two local transmissions, one was from the MV Glen cluster in Selangor and another from Pahang.

The ministry said 153 active cases were being treated, four of them in intensive care  with three needing respiratory assistance.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,079.

No new deaths were recorded, which sees the toll remain at 128.

Noor Hisham said the latest case from the MV Glen cluster was detected after the ministry conducted active case detection and contact tracing.

“She is the wife of a Covid-19 patient from this cluster.”

He also said 58 individuals from the cluster had been screened, with three testing positive. Sixteen tested negative, while 39 were still waiting for results.

Meanwhile, a total of 12,870 individuals in three zones in Kedah, placed under the enhanced movement control order, had been screened for Covid-19.

One tested positive, while 182 were still awaiting results. The remaining 12,687 tested negative.

Noor Hisham said about 9,490 in the zones had yet to be tested.

“We would like to appeal to those who have yet to undergo screening to visit the screening centres immediately.”
