Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said no new deaths had been reported over the past 24 hours. The death toll remains at 133.

He said there were 858 active cases. Four patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with three requiring respiratory assistance.

He said the cases today involved four imported cases and 107 local infections. The four imported cases originated from Indonesia, India and Singapore. All involved foreigners.

Meanwhile, the 107 local infections involved 76 Malaysians and 31 foreigners.

Out of the 107 new local cases, 74 were detected in the Bangau-Bangau cluster in Sabah. The number of infections from the cluster now stands at 134 cases: 44 Filipinos and 90 Malaysians.

Five areas declared as red zones

Noor Hisham said as of Sept 25, there are five areas in Malaysia declared as red zones — four in Sabah (Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Semporna) and one in Kedah (Kota Setar).

He added that individuals with symptoms who had come from these red zones must go for Covid-19 screenings at the nearest health facility.

Those without symptoms who had come from red zones are highly encouraged to do the same and to self-quarantine for 14 days to protect their family, friends and surrounding community.

“From the latest situation, it is found that the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Sabah is still on the rise. As announced today, there are 97 positive cases reported from Sabah.

“On top of that, there are 10 positive cases detected from those who had returned from Sabah since Sept 20. All are receiving treatment.”

Noor Hisham again reminded voters in Sabah to observe SOPs, especially for the state election tomorrow, to help curb the spread of the virus.
