Covid-19 spreading faster in Selangor than in Sabah, says health DG

The rise in Selangor's Rt value is due to the surge in new daily infections of between 10 and 15.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says it is important that communities comply with Covid-19 SOPs and intervention measures set out by the government.
PETALING JAYA:
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said Covid-19 is now spreading faster in Selangor than it is in Sabah, following a surge in daily new infections.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Noor Hisham said Selangor’s Rt value was 1.95 while Sabah’s was 1.26. An Rt value is used to calculate how fast Covid-19 is spreading.

“The rise in Selangor’s Rt value is due to the surge in new daily infections of between 10 to 15 compared with two to three cases before this,” he said.

“This indicates an increased risk of outbreaks if public health measures are not taken.”

Although Sabah’s Rt value had stabilised, he said it was still worrying as it involved a high number of new daily cases.

He also noted that Kedah’s Rt had decreased from more than 1 to 0.65, which shows the state’s compliance with effective SOPs.

Meanwhile, the Rt in Malaysia is 1.25

Warning that the Rt value might increase if optimal public health intervention measures were not put in place, Noor Hisham said it was important that communities complied with SOPs and intervention measures set out by the government.
