What you need to know about the CMCO in Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang

PETALING JAYA:
The government has announced a conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang, three districts in Sabah, in a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Here are the details of the CMCO and other restrictions which will come into effect after midnight on Wednesday.

  • Travel in and out of these three districts are prohibited except for those in essential services, including factories and people involved in the food supply chain.
  • The international trade and industry ministry will release a list of essential services in these areas.
  • Entry into Sabah is not allowed, except for Malaysian citizens from Sabah, holders of immigration passes issued by the Sabah Immigration Department who are presently outside of Sabah, and couples who are part of the essential services. Those who are not included in these categories must apply for special permission from the Sabah government.
  • Only two people from each home are allowed to go out to get supplies.
  • All non-essential businesses are not allowed to be opened.
  • Restaurants, eateries and sundry shops are only allowed to open from 6am to 6pm, and dining-in is not allowed. They can only open for deliveries and takeaways.
  • Petrol stations can only open from 6am to 6pm.
  • Markets are only allowed to be open from 6am to 2pm.
  • Night markets, wholesale markets, farmers markets and “tamu” are not allowed to operate.
  • Government and private hospitals and clinics are allowed to operate 24 hours.
  • Pharmacies and shops selling medicines can only operate between 6am and 6pm.
  • All activities and services at airports and ports are allowed to continue but travellers and those working in these places must get police permission first.
  • Vehicles carrying essentials must get police permission first.
  • Taxi, e-hailing and food delivery services are allowed to operate only from 6am to 8pm. There is a two-passenger limit for taxi and e-hailing services.
  • Express buses and minibuses are not allowed to operate.
  • Travelling for emergencies is allowed but prior approval from the authorities is needed.
  • Residents are not allowed to leave their respective districts and go to work during the CMCO. Employers must abide by this directive and allow their workers to go on leave or work from home.
  • Approvals to work will only be given to those in essential services with police permission.
  • Muslim and non-Muslim houses of worship, including suraus, public and private institutions of higher learning, schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, tahfiz schools and daycare centres are not allowed to operate.
  • All sporting, recreational, social and cultural activities are not allowed.
  • The police are responsible for securing the districts and they will be assisted by the armed forces, Civil Defence Force and Rela.
