835 Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths

There were 674 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 18,499.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry has reported 835 Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 674 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 18,499.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 835 new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 28,640.

The two deaths bring the toll to 238.

The two deaths today involved one Malaysian (aged 82) and one foreigner (53), with the former having a history of chronic health conditions. Both cases were from Tawau, Sabah.

A total of 9,903 people are still being treated, with 89 receiving intensive care, of which 32 require respiratory assistance.

Of the new cases, 830 are local infections while five are imported.

Noor Hisham said there were 410 cases in Sabah and 155 cases in Negeri Sembilan.

The other states which recorded cases were Selangor (125), Labuan (74), Sarawak (16), Penang (13), Perak (11), KL (9) and Johor (8). Kedah and Terengganu each recorded four cases while Putrajaya and Melaka each had one.

Most of these cases came from existing clusters and screening of close contacts of positive cases.

The five imported cases involved one Malaysian and four foreigners who arrived from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Bulgaria.
