“An investigation was opened yesterday into a video that was uploaded onto the Facebook account of Lokman Noor Adam as it had elements of criminal intimidation and used foul language (to describe the) leadership of the prime minister,” Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed said.
Apart from being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Huzir said, Lokman is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using insulting words.
He confirmed that Lokman was arrested at about 11pm yesterday and will be remanded for one day.
He added that the investigation is being carried out professionally and that police are not under pressure or receiving instructions from any parties.
In a brief post on his Facebook page last night, Lokman said he had been detained and called for his lawyer to meet him at Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigations Unit.
Before his arrest, he said, he was approached by police officers at his restaurant during his livestream on Facebook discussing the annual budget.
