5 Covid-19 clusters detected in Selangor, KL, Penang, Sabah

They are the Sutera and Ria-30 cluster in Sabah, Tamar cluster in Selangor, Intan cluster in Penang and Danau cluster in Kuala Lumpur.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry has detected five Covid-19 clusters in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sabah.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Sutera and Ria-30 clusters in Sabah, Tamar cluster in Selangor, Intan cluster in Penang and Danau cluster in Kuala Lumpur.

The Sutera cluster was first detected in Kota Kinabalu when the index patient tested positive on Nov 2 after exhibiting symptoms. A total of 32 people have been screened so far with 15 testing positive and six negative. Eleven people are awaiting results.

Meanwhile, the Ria-30 cluster in Sabah’s Tuaran district was identified after community screening was conducted on Nov 2. A total of 254 people have been screened so far with 11 testing positive and 121 negative. There are 122 people awaiting results.

The Tamar cluster was detected in Selangor’s Petaling district when the index patient tested positive on Nov 1. A total of 137 people have been screened so far with 10 testing positive and 57 negative. Seventy people are awaiting results.

Meanwhile, the Intan cluster in the northeast district of Penang was identified after a foreigner tested positive before leaving Malaysia on Oct 29. A total of 98 people have been screened so far with nine testing positive and 35 negative. There are 54 people awaiting results.

The Danau cluster in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, was detected after the index case tested positive on Oct 27 after exhibiting symptoms. A total of 82 people have been screened so far with eight testing positive and 40 negative. There are 34 people awaiting results.

A total of 112 cases (11.1%) today were linked to clusters from prisons and detention centres, with the Sandakan prison cluster (73 cases) recording the most number of cases. There are a total of 112 cases in the Sandakan prison cluster.

Other clusters with a large number of new infections are the Cergas and Kaya clusters with 50 and 31 cases respectively. The Cergas cluster is in Negeri Sembilan while the Kaya cluster is active in Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka and Selangor.

Overall, 33 clusters recorded new cases today.
