869 Covid-19 cases as death toll hits 300

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah recorded the highest number of cases today.

The health ministry has reported 869 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 725 recoveries.

He said the new Covid-19 cases bring the total number in the country to 42,050.

Sabah recorded the highest number of cases with 397, followed by Selangor with 236.

Noor Hisham said there were six deaths reported, pushing the total number of deaths to 300.

The breakdown of new cases recorded are as follows – Sabah (365), Selangor (160), Negeri Sembilan (46), Labuan (45), Penang (29), Kedah (21), Johor (19), Sarawak (19), Terengganu (13), Perak (7), Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (4), Pahang (3) and Kelantan (3).

According to Noor Hisham, new cases are still being detected from temporary detention centres and prisons in Seberang Perai, Kepayan, and Tawau.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 30,304 patients, while the total number of active cases has risen by 138 to 11,446 today.

Out of the total active cases, 82 cases are receiving intensive care, of which 27 patients require respiratory assistance.

The six deaths are all from Sabah involving four men between the ages of 47 and 84, all of whom had chronic health conditions, and two women, aged 62 and 65, with one of them suffering from breast cancer.
