Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made following numerous requests to relax the previous two-in-a-car rule.
“We agreed to allow three people in one car. This is the same rule for taxis and e-hailing vehicles,” he said at a press conference today.
Ismail said the ruling is effective immediately.
He said while it was previously limited to two people from the same household, certain exceptions were allowed, such as for those who had to bring their parents to clinics.
He also said exceptions would continue for those with young children if they had valid reasons for having more than three people in a car.
“Say a couple has two young children – six years and four years old. They can’t leave them at home as it may be dangerous, so for their safety, they can be brought along,” he said.
Labuan CMCO extended
Meanwhile, Ismail announced that the CMCO placed on Labuan would be extended until next month.
“As at Nov 12, there were 35 new (Covid-19) cases, bringing the total number of cases in Labuan to 1,135 cases. On the advice and after risk assessments from the health ministry, the meeting (MKN) agreed to extend the CMCO from Nov 14 to Dec 6.”
He said this was to curb the spread of the virus and to allow healthcare workers to conduct active case detection in identified high-risk areas.
Ismail also announced that the enhanced MCO (EMCO) at Kampung Haji Baki in Kuching, Sarawak, would end today after no new Covid-19 cases were detected for seven days.
The EMCO for Kampung Haji Baki was implemented from Oct 28 to Nov 10 following the detection of five new cases through contact tracing. It was then extended and was originally scheduled to end on Nov 17.
