8 new Covid-19 clusters detected

They involve KL, Selangor, Labuan and Penang.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a press conference, he said they are the Pekapuri, Batu Besar and Tower clusters in Selangor; the Pelangi construction site, Wawasan and Delima cluster in Kuala Lumpur, the J Bandar cluster in Labuan, and the May Indah cluster in Penang.

The Pekapuri cluster from Gombak, Selangor was detected on Dec 21 following workplace screenings; 769 individuals have been screened, with 202 positive cases.

A total of 546 people were screened and 59 positive cases reported from the Batu Besar workplace cluster in Klang, Selangor, since Dec 18.

On the third workplace cluster reported in the last 24 hours, Noor Hisham said the Tower cluster involves the Gombak, Hulu Langat and Sepang districts in Selangor and Titiwangsa and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. The cases have been reported since Dec 17 following targeted workplace screenings.

So far, 1,154 people were screened. There are currently 20 positive cases from the cluster.

On the Pelangi construction site cluster from Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, he said cases were first detected starting from Dec 21 following targeted construction site screenings; 142 people have been screened with 23 positive cases.

The Wawasan cluster involving Petaling, Selangor; Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur; and Putrajaya meanwhile has a total of six positive cases from screenings involving 44 people.

It was first detected on Dec 17 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual screenings.

The Delima cluster involving Titwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and the Gombak and Hulu Langat districts in Selangor was identified after a person showing symptoms tested positive on Dec 14.

Close contact screenings involving 51 people found another eight cases (total nine) from the cluster.

The J Bandar workplace cluster from Labuan was first detected on Dec 16. The index case was found positive through workplace screenings. As at Dec 21, 84 people were screened and 25 people were found positive.

The May Indah cluster involves all five districts of Penang island and Seberang Perai. Noor Hisham said the two initial cases were found positive on Dec 10 following targeted workplace screenings; 132 people have been screened from the cluster so far, of whom 27 were positive.

He said six clusters ended today: Teja Kasih, Permatang, Kejora, Bayan, Numbak and Danau clusters.

There are 201 clusters still active.
