
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,221 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 99,449.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 122,845.
There are 22,887 active cases with 123 patients receiving intensive care, of which 52 require respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the eight deaths raises the toll to 509.
The deaths involve seven Malaysians and one foreigner. They were aged between 52 to 78, with four of them suffering from pre-existing medical conditions.
Of the new infections today, 16 were imported cases while the remaining 2,011 were local transmissions.
Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases with 509, while other areas that reported triple-digit infections were Johor (428), Sabah (383) and Kuala Lumpur (313).
They were followed by Negeri Sembilan (98), Penang (60), Kedah (47), Kelantan (42), Labuan (37), Perak (25), Pahang (25), Melaka (21), Sarawak (13), Terengganu (13) and Putrajaya (13).
No cases were reported in Perlis.
These new infections came from new and existing clusters as well as close contact tracing and other Covid-19 screenings.
Prison and detention centre clusters had 111 cases today, most of which came from the Jalan Harapan prison and Tembok Gajah clusters, with 64 and 43 cases, respectively.
