Record-high 3,309 Covid-19 cases

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says there were four deaths reported.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported a record-high 3,309 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,469 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 110,584.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 141,533.

There are 30,390 active cases with 190 patients receiving intensive care, of which
83 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the number of fatalities to 559.

The four deaths all involved Malaysians – two men from Selangor, as well as one woman and one man, both from Perak.

They were aged between 52 and 69. Three of them suffered from chronic illnesses.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases with 1,007 infections, followed by Johor with 442 and Sabah with 409.

Noor Hisham said 825 of the cases in Selangor came from active close-contact screenings being carried out on the field and existing clusters.

Meanwhile, on cases in the other states, Noor Hisham said Kuala Lumpur reported 326 cases in the last 24 hours, while Penang reported 317 and Perak reported 241.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported 146 cases followed by Pahang (96), Kelantan (86), Negeri Sembilan (85), Kedah (62), Putrajaya (36), Melaka (21), Terengganu (20) and Labuan (15). Perlis is the only state with no new infections.

Some 439 cases today were related to prison and immigration depot clusters, namely the Tembok Choh (162), Jalan Harapan prison (192), Tembok Mempaga (70), Tembok Gajah (7), Pagar Siput (3), Telok Mas (3) and Seberang Perai prison (2) clusters.

There were six imported cases reported.
