PKR Youth fears 12th Malaysia Plan won’t see light of day due to emergency

PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir says if the plan is postponed again, the public and foreign investors will think Malaysia has no proper plan to prop up the economy.

PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir said the emergency will prove to be a disaster for the economy.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR Youth has voiced concern over the nationwide emergency, saying it will result in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) being “buried”.

“The emergency will be a disaster for the economy.

“While investors have begun to see neighbouring countries as viable options to grow their business, Malaysia is once again facing the possibility of the 12MP being buried,” said PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir in a statement today.

Last June, the government postponed the tabling of the 12MP from August 2020 to January.

The 12MP outlines the country’s development plan from 2021 to 2025.

Akmal said the plan was postponed under the pretext of allowing it to be reviewed following the impact of Covid-19 on the world economy.

“Seeing that Parliament will not sit during the emergency, of course the tabling of the 12MP will again be postponed.

“This will give the impression to the public and foreign investors that there is no systematic or thorough plan to restore the country’s economy.

“The weakness of the Perikatan Nasional administration will not only have a negative impact on the economy for the time being but also bad implications for the long term,” he said.
