3,339 Covid-19 cases, 7 deaths bring toll past 600

240 are patients being treated in intensive care, with 93 requiring respiratory assistance.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 3,339 Covid-19 cases and seven deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,676 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 120,051.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 158,434.

There are 37,782 active cases, with 240 patients receiving intensive care, of which 93 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the seven deaths bring the number of fatalities to 601.

Of the new cases today, 15 were imported while 3,324 were local infections.

The seven who died were six Malaysians and one foreigner. Three deaths were in Selangor, two in Johor, and one each in Kedah and Negeri Sembilan.

All but one of the dead had existing health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension.

Every state and federal territory in the country reported infections today.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 1,314, followed by Sabah (with 393), Johor (362) and Kuala Lumpur (334).

Triple-digit cases were also reported in Negeri Sembilan with 236 infections, Penang (120), Kelantan (114) and Perak (107).

Kedah reported 96 cases, followed by Sarawak (62), Pahang (61), Melaka (60), Putrajaya (35), Terengganu (22) Labuan (22) and Perlis (13).

There were 159 cases from clusters in immigration depots and prisons, with the majority coming from the Jalan Harapan (94) and DTI Sepang 2 (53) clusters.
