Anwar’s sexual conduct drove me to leave PKR, claims Azmin

The former PKR deputy president says he will adduce evidence that has never been made public when a suit by voters goes to trial.

Mohamed Azmin Ali said he decided to leave PKR as he thought Anwar Ibrahim was not qualified to lead the party nor become the next prime minister.
PETALING JAYA:
Former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali has claimed that Anwar Ibrahim’s sexual conduct was among the reasons that led to him leaving the party to join PPBM.

Azmin made his claim in reply to a suit brought by voters in his constituency of Gombak, and said that “I will adduce evidence that has never come to public knowledge during the trial” when the suit is heard.

The Gombak voters alleged that Azmin had breached his fiduciary duties by party hopping to PPBM and causing the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in February last year.

Azmin said his decision to leave the party was made after concluding that Anwar was not qualified to lead PKR nor become the next prime minister.

He cited a number of strong allegations made against Anwar about his sexual practices that, as a Muslim, was immoral.

Azmin said two people, Mohammed Yusoff Rawther and Aidil Azim Abu Adam, had stated that they were victims of Anwar’s immoral acts. “Allegations of sexual misconduct have been made against Anwar since he returned to lead PKR,” Azmin said.

Anwar had denied the allegations of sexual misconduct, while Aidil Azim has since claimed that he was manipulated into making the allegations against Anwar.

Azmin also said Anwar had created differences among PH leaders because he constantly pushed the leaders to make him the prime minister as soon as possible.

“I could no longer stay with PKR and PH because there are differences among us about the position of PM and this cannot be resolved amicably,” he said, adding that he had stood firm then that Dr Mahathir Mohamad should continue to lead Malaysia.

Azmin also said that PH had been “shaky” after Anwar was released from prison in 2018 and rejoined politics after the coalition took power.

“He has since shown his true colours, which was his desire to become prime minister, and not pushing for the ‘reformasi’ agenda that he has been preaching all along,” he added.

Azmin also claimed the pardon, granted to Anwar after May 9, 2018 was “defective” as there were insufficient members in the Federal Territories Pardons Board to hear the plea.

Azmin added he will call Yusoff and Aidil Azim to testify for him when the case goes to trial. “I will also adduce evidence that has never come to public knowledge during the trial,” he said.

The suit against Azmin was filed by 10 voters who seek a declaration that Azmin owes them a fiduciary duty as an elected representative. They also want a declaration that Azmin committed deceit and had violated his oath of office to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution.

In their statement of claim, the voters said Azmin caused the collapse of the PH government in February 2020 by joining PN, which included Barisan Nasional and persons that Azmin himself had acknowledged were “credibly accused of corrupt practices”.
