10 new Covid-19 clusters, 4 involving communities

The other six were workplace clusters.

Testing of close contacts is ongoing in the cluster areas.

The health ministry has detected 10 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said six of them involve workplaces while the other four were community clusters.

Three clusters were detected in Selangor, one of which also involves Kuala Lumpur, another three were detected in Johor, two in Pahang and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak.

The Jalan Industri Rawang cluster is a workplace cluster in Gombak, with its index cases testing positive on Feb 3 in a screening at a factory in Rawang Integrated Industrial Park. A total of 156 people have been screened with 23 found positive.

The Jalan Gombak cluster is a workplace cluster involving Gombak, Sepang, Petaling and Hulu Langat in Selangor; and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. The first case was detected on Jan 18 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms and the cluster involves students and health officers at a higher education institution on Jalan Gombak. Some 1,110 people have been screened with 41 testing positive.

The Jalan Jasmine cluster is a workplace cluster in Hulu Selangor, with its index cases testing positive on Jan 2 in a screening at two factories located on Jalan Jasmine, Bukit Beruntung Industrial area. A total of 1,664 people have been screened with 61 found to be positive.

The Parit Penyengat cluster is a workplace cluster in Muar. The first few Covid-19 cases were confirmed today following a screening at a factory, where the workers’ dorm is located at Lot Parit Penyengat Darat. Of the 572 people screened, 34 had tested positive.

The Kampung Lukut cluster is a community cluster in Kota Tinggi, with its index case testing positive on Jan 28 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. Its name refers to Kampung Lukut, where the patient lives. A total of 33 people have been screened with 15 found to be positive.

The Jalan Jelutong cluster is another community cluster in Kota Tinggi, with its first case detected on Jan 27 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. Its name refers to the patient’s workplace at Jalan Jelutong, Taman Desaru Utama in Bandar Penawar. Some 54 people have been screened with seven testing positive.

The Jalan Pengiran cluster is a workplace cluster in Matu, Sarawak, with its index case testing positive on Jan 24 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. It involves staff of a public administration centre at Jalan Pengiran. Of the 113 people tested, 20 were found to be positive.

The Permata Satu cluster is a workplace cluster in Seremban, with its first few cases detected on Jan 23 in a screening at a factory located on Jalan Permata 1, Arab Malaysian Industrial Park in Nilai. Some 532 people have been screened with 31 testing positive.

The Rantau Tanjung cluster is a community cluster in Maran, Pahang, with its index case testing positive on Jan 27 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. It involves a social event attended by the patient on Jan 16, while its name refers to the locality where the cases came from. A total of 21 people have been screened, of which 14 tested positive.

Lastly, the Kampung Pulau Jawa cluster is a community cluster in Pekan, with its first case detected on Jan 29 in a screening after exhibiting symptoms. Its name refers to Kampung Pulau Jawa, where the cases were reported. Some 37 people have been screen with 16 testing positive.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the Desa Setapak cluster has officially ended today, which means there are 421 active clusters left out of the total 861 reported.

Clusters that recorded the highest spike in cases today are the Persiaran Perkilangan (362), Industri Serkam (201) and Jalan Perindustrian (150) clusters.
