Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 4,092 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 181,886.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 231,483.
There are 48,771 active cases with 308 patients being treated in intensive care and 135 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 17 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 826.
The new cases today involved 4,568 local infections and three imported cases. The local cases comprised 3,176 Malaysians and 1,392 foreigners.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again with 2,056, while others that recorded three-digit infections were Johor (664), Kuala Lumpur (481), Sarawak (270), Melaka (238), Sabah (175), Perak (163), Penang (157) and Negeri Sembilan (100).
They were followed by Pahang (78), Terengganu (69), Kedah (51), Kelantan (48), Putrajaya (20) and Labuan (one). Perlis did not report any infections today.
There were 237 cases from prisons and detention centres, most of which came from the Tembok Taiping (79), Jalan Sungai Jelok prison (65), Tembok Renggam (44) and Tembok Mempaga (38) clusters.
The 17 deaths reported in the past 24 hours comprised 15 Malaysians and two foreigners, with the youngest being a four-month-old baby boy and the oldest an 82-year-old.
The baby had suffered from heart issues prior to his passing, while three of the deceased today did not have existing medical conditions.
Three of the deceased, including a 34-year-old foreigner with no medical history, were only found to be Covid-19 positive after their bodies were brought to the hospital, where they were then tested for the virus.
