1,178 Covid-19 cases, 6 deaths

There are 14,399 active cases, with 163 patients being treated in intensive care and 81 requiring respiratory assistance.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 1,178 Covid-19 cases and six deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,377 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 331,001.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 346,678.

There are 14,399 active cases, with 163 patients being treated in intensive care and 81 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the six deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,278.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of infections with 238. This was followed by Selangor (237), Penang (190), Johor (165), Kuala Lumpur (101), Sabah (86), Negeri Sembilan (34), Kedah (32), Perak (31), Kelantan (27), Pahang (14), Melaka (nine), Labuan (seven), Terengganu (six) and Putrajaya (one).

Perlis did not record any cases today.

The new cases today involved 1,158 local infections and 20 imported cases. Local cases comprised 861 Malaysians and 297 foreigners.

There were 31 cases from prisons and immigration detention centres today, most of which were from the Jalan Harapan cluster with 14 cases.

The six deaths today involved five Malaysians and one foreigner, aged between 54 and 81. All of them had existing medical conditions.
