“I listened to it (the audio recording) and after being in PKR for 20 years, I believe that is Anwar’s voice,” Zuraida, a former PKR vice-president, said at an event in Ampang.
The conversation was alleged to have taken place after the recent Umno general assembly, giving the impression that they were working together.
Both Zahid and Anwar however, have denied speaking to each other.
Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi has decried the recording as a “conspiracy of the highest level” and said the act of leaking it was politically motivated.
Meanwhile, Zuraida said discussions were still ongoing on reviewing the Peaceful Assembly Act to better facilitate public gatherings.
Recently, she said peaceful assemblies should not be subjected to any police investigation and called for the law to be reviewed to allow this.
Zuraida said this in response to a police probe into participants of a gathering in support of Undi18 in front of Parliament two weeks ago. Undi18 is an initiative to allow youths aged 18 and above to vote.
Additionally, about Umno’s decision to cut ties with PPBM, Zuraida, who is now a PPBM member, said she was ready to move on and that it was “part of life”.
At the recent Umno general assembly, Zahid had announced that Umno was cutting ties with PPBM and its president Muhyiddin Yassin for the next general election, and would only work with the government until Parliament is dissolved.
