
Maszlee urged his successor, Radzi Jidin, and the education ministry to take immediate action, adding that reports should be lodged with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“The honour of our teachers should not be tarnished by a few bad apples,” he said in a Twitter post, ending with the hashtag #MakeSchoolASaferPlace.
The girl, 17, had lodged a report that a classmate had threatened to rape her after she called out her teacher for making jokes about rape. The report has since been retracted after the boy apologised.
But after speaking with Malaysiakini yesterday, several obscene comments could be spotted on the portal’s Facebook post of the interview, sparking uproar among netizens.
Some users are claiming that two male Facebook users who left the obscene comments are teachers from two different schools in Pahang.
On Twitter, @sageamani said it was scary to see teachers making such comments when they would be interacting with students every day.
Meanwhile, Facebook user Dayang Anne said: “Let’s not condone rape culture anymore. Call them out when you hear any (of such incidents).”
While it is unsure if their remarks have been taken down, FMT has reached out to the education ministry for comment on the matter.
