KUALA LUMPUR:
Low Yat Group chairman Low Yow Chuan has died aged 88.

According to a news report, one of his family members was quoted as saying that Low’s funeral will be held on Wednesday (May 12), Bernama reported.

Since 1971 Low has headed the Low Yat Group, founded by his father Low Yat, and as the group’s chairman and managing director, he expanded its portfolio of projects and businesses.

Low Yat Group is one of the largest privately-owned groups in Malaysia with diversified businesses, including property development and retail.

The group began as the Low Yat construction company set up by his father in 1947. Low Yat built Malaysia’s first international-class hotel, the Federal Hotel in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, which was ready to house foreign dignitaries three days before Merdeka.

Among the group’s properties is Low Yat Plaza, named after his father, an IT mall that is the centre of the computer and mobile gadgets retail business.
