Tajuddin sacked as Prasarana chairman

In a letter to the Umno elections director dated May 26, finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz thanked the chairman for his services over the past year.

PETALING JAYA:
Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has been sacked as chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, effective immediately.

In a letter to the Umno elections director dated May 26, finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz thanked Tajuddin for his services in the past year. He was made chairman on May 11 last year.

A spokesman for the finance ministry confirmed the authenticity of the letter.

This comes two days after the tragic LRT accident that left 213 injured, with more than 60 sent to hospital. It was the worst incident involving the Kelana Jaya line since it first started operations as the Putra line in 1996.

Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was made Prasarana chairman on May 11 last year.

Tajuddin has come under fire over his press conference yesterday after he went to visit the site of the accident the morning after.

The Public Transport Users Association (4PAM) had called for Tajuddin to resign over the accident, saying the lack of an immediate statement from the Umno man on the incident was disrespectful to the passengers.

An online petition calling for him to step down, had also gone viral.

Tajuddin was also slammed by netizens for being insensitive and rude during his press conference, with many calling for his resignation and describing his press conference as a public relations disaster.

During the press conference, he had told the media not to “provoke” him or “sensationalise” things when queried on certain issues.

It is not immediately clear if he was sacked because of the LRT accident or the press conference.
