7,654 Covid-19 cases, 103 deaths

There are a record high 934 patients being treated in the intensive care unit.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 7,654 Covid-19 cases and 73 deaths in the past 24 hours, with a record 943 cases in the ICU.

The last time the country’s daily infections breached the 7,000 mark was on June 5 with 7,452 cases.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 4,797 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 714,815.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 792,693.

There are 72,201 active cases with the 943 patients in intensive care and 450 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 103 deaths take the number of fatalities to 5,677.

There were 4,810 cases in the Klang Valley alone with Selangor topping the states with 3,260 cases and Kuala Lumpur registering 1,550, the highest-ever for the federal territory.

This was followed by Negeri Sembilan (698), Kedah (337), Johor (313), Sarawak (286), Sabah (225), Melaka (230), Penang (185), Pahang (180), Kelantan (118), Perak (94), Labuan (82), Terengganu (61), Putrajaya (33) and Perlis (2).

There were 7,643 local infections today, comprising 5,486 Malaysians and 2,157 foreigners, as well as 11 imported cases.

The 103 deceased comprised 94 Malaysians and nine foreigners, aged between 21 and 100. All but 15 had existing medical conditions.
