Don’t bow to threats, Syed Saddiq tells other MPs

Muar MP claims that other elected reps have also been 'targeted' and called up by corruption investigators.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said MPs should not easily switch sides when threatened with legal action.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Former minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman claims that several other MPs are also being “targeted” by the authorities with corruption investigations launched against them.

Speaking to reporters after posting bail in his criminal breach of trust (CBT) case today, the Muar MP said he was informed during his visit to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office that other MPs had also been called up by investigators.

“Some are scheduled to meet MACC tomorrow, and some had their session postponed.

“My message to them is clear, never bow to those who intimidate us, especially before the Dewan Rakyat resumes next Monday.

“We have our dignity,” he said, adding that MPs should not easily switch sides when threatened with legal action.

Earlier, Syed Saddiq, who was youth and sports minister in the Pakatan Harapan government, pleaded not guilty to two charges of misappropriating a total of RM1.12 million belonging to Bersatu Youth.

From the amount, RM120,000 was said to be party funds for the 2018 general election, while RM1 million was allegedly withdrawn by him without the top leadership’s consent.

He said the two charges had nothing to do with the time when he was in the government.

“The alleged offence took place after the Sheraton Move (Feb 23, 2020) and during April 2018.

“I will challenge (the CBT charges) and clear my name in court to show it is politically motivated,” Syed Saddiq said.

He said that he would go live on Facebook and Instagram at 8pm tonight to make “further revelations”.
