
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were a record 12,930 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 890,742. The previous record was 11,526 on July 27.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 1,078,646.
There are 179,179 active cases with 1,043 patients being treated in intensive care and 531 requiring respiratory assistance. The 1,043 in ICU is a new high too, overtaking the 1,023 in ICU on July 27.
Meanwhile, the 174 deaths take the total number of fatalities to 8,725.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 7,163, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,183), Kedah (1,212), Johor (1,054), Negeri Sembilan (884), Sabah (776), Pahang (638), Kelantan (615), Perak (596), Sarawak (582), Penang (554), Terengganu (437), Melaka (416), Putrajaya (84), Labuan (11) and Perlis (10).
There were 17,138 local infections today, involving 14,807 Malaysians and 2,331 foreigners, as well as 32 imported cases.
Of the new cases, 383 patients were in Category 3, 4 and 5. Overall, 97.7% of today’s cases were from Category 1 or 2.
The 174 deceased comprised 157 Malaysians and 17 foreigners. All but 34 had existing medical conditions while a total of 28 were brought in dead.
Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 70, followed by Kuala Lumpur (20), Johor (17), Kedah (17), Melaka (10), Negeri Sembilan and Penang (9 each), Sabah and Terengganu (8 each), Perak (3), Kelantan (2) and Pahang (1).
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 1.16.
Terengganu recorded the highest R-nought level again with 1.33. Other states and federal territories that recorded R0 levels above 1 were Kelantan (1.26), Sabah (1.25), Penang (1.25), Kedah (1.22), Johor (1.19), Perak (1.18), Putrajaya (1.16), KL (1.15), Selangor (1.12), Pahang (1.08), Melaka (1.07) and Sarawak (1.04).
