
Today’s infections have breached the 20,000 mark for the first time. The previous record high was 19,819 infections yesterday.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were a record high 13,893 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 976,626.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 1,203,706.
There are now 217,061 active cases, with 1,078 patients being treated in intensive care and 549 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 164 deaths take the number of fatalities past the 10,000 mark to 10,019.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 8,549.
This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,163), Kedah (1,446), Johor (1,300), Sabah (1,062), Penang (1,022), Negeri Sembilan (989), Perak (916), Sarawak (759), Kelantan (772), Melaka (622), Terengganu (501), Pahang (426), Putrajaya (50), Labuan (15) and Perlis (4).
Selangor, Kedah and Penang registered a record high number of cases.
There were 20,562 local infections today, involving 17,021 Malaysians and 3,541 foreigners, as well as 34 imported cases.
The 164 deceased comprised 150 Malaysians and 14 foreigners. All but 37 had existing medical conditions while 22 were brought in dead.
Selangor reported the highest number of deaths with 45, followed by Johor (27), Kuala Lumpur (24), Kedah (18), Perak (10), Penang (9), Melaka (9), Sabah (9), Negeri Sembilan (7), Sarawak (2), Pahang (2), Kelantan (1) and Terengganu (1).
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0 or R-nought) remained at 1.07.
Kelantan recorded the highest R-nought level again with 1.31. Other states and federal territories that recorded R0 levels above 1 were Terengganu (1.26), Perak (1.22), Pahang (1.22), Penang (1.19), Sabah (1.17), Kedah (1.16), Johor (1.14), Kuala Lumpur (1.13), Sarawak (1.11), Selangor (1.08), Putrajaya (1.08) and Melaka (1.06).
