KUALA LUMPUR:
The legal team for Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman-led MUDA have withdrawn their legal challenge against the home minister’s inaction in deciding their application to be registered as a political party.

Lawyer Lim Wei Jiet said the withdrawal was done during case mention before High Court judge Noorin Badaruddin today.

“The (former) minister (Hamzah Zainudin) had made a decision, so the application for judicial review is academic.

“We will file another suit very soon to challenge the minister’s decision to reject Muda’s appeal on the registration,” he told reporters.

MUDA filed the judicial review earlier this year, seeking an order to compel Hamzah to make a decision under Section 18 of the Societies Act over their party registration’s appeal.

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) had earlier rejected MUDA’s registration but did not provide specific reasons for the rejection.

Last week, the court was told that the minister had already decided on MUDA’s appeal. Again, no reason was provided by Hamzah on why he decided to reject MUDA’s registration.

Pejuang, which is led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had also filed a similar legal challenge this year to compel the minister to decide on their party registration.

Another High Court allowed Pejuang’s judicial review in June and ordered Hamzah to decide on the registration within 14 days.

Hamzah subsequently complied with the court order and approved Pejuang’s registration.
