
The previous record for Covid-19 cases was 21,668 on Aug 12.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,466,512.
He said there were a record high 19,680 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,198,726.
There are 254,484 active cases with 1,060 patients being treated in intensive care and 540 needing respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 225 deaths take the number of fatalities to 13,302.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 6,858.
This was followed by Sabah (2,413), Penang (1,867), Kedah (1,852), Kuala Lumpur (1,587), Johor (1,477), Sarawak (1,403), Kelantan (1,351), Perak (1,036), Pahang (675), Melaka (579), Negeri Sembilan (577), Terengganu (487), Perlis (50), Putrajaya (25), and Labuan (5).
Sarawak, Sabah, Penang and Pahang registered record-high cases.
There were 22,238 local infections today, as well as four imported cases.
The 225 who died comprised 198 Malaysians and 27 foreigners. All but 50 had existing medical conditions while a total of 35 were brought in dead.
Selangor also reported the highest number of fatalities with 74, followed by Johor (37), Kuala Lumpur (24), Sabah (18), Penang (15), Kedah (14), Perak (9), Negeri Sembilan (8), Melaka (7), Pahang (6), Kelantan (6), Terengganu (5) and Sarawak (2).
Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 1.04.
Perlis recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.29, followed by Sarawak (1.19), Sabah (1.17), Kelantan (1.16), Penang (1.15), Kedah (1.11), Perak (1.09), Johor, Melaka and Terengganu (1.07), Pahang (1.06), Selangor (1.01), Kuala Lumpur (0.98), Negeri Sembilan (0.95), Putrajaya (0.91) and Labuan (0).
About 98% or 21,812 cases are Category 1 and Category 2, while 18,631 new cases, or 83.8% involved individuals who have not been vaccinated or completed their vaccinations.
