Let Anwar resolve Negeri PKR crisis, says rep

Ampangan assemblyman Rafie Abdul Malek says the political crisis only involves the party and not the administration of the state government.

Aminuddin Harun has been accused of failing to strengthen the PKR grassroots ahead of the next general election.
PETALING JAYA:
An assemblyman linked to a statement on a loss of confidence in Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun has admitted that there is a state PKR leadership crisis and has left it to party president Anwar Ibrahim to resolve the issue.

Ampangan assemblyman Rafie Abdul Malek said Anwar understood the problems and would make a decision.

“I accept the fact that there are problems but how else do we solve these problems that have arisen? I am confident that when there is a leader (Anwar) who is centralised, this issue can be resolved amicably,” he told FMT.

The Seremban PKR branch deputy leader stressed that the political crisis only involved PKR internally and not the administration of the state government.

“If we had wanted to involve the state government from the beginning, we could have made an effort to overthrow Aminuddin, but we did not. There was no vote of confidence against him in the state assembly sitting.

“Obviously, there is a problem in the party and various quarters are observing what is happening. Most say it is weak, so how can we correct the situation?” he said, describing the internal crisis as normal in a political organisation.

Rafie, who is also the state executive councillor for investment, industry, entrepreneurship, education and human capital, said the current dissatisfaction was centered on Aminuddin, who is the state PKR chief, for failing to strengthen the grassroots ahead of the next general election.

“The branches are not ‘moving’ and meetings are not being held. They think something needs to be done and PKR should be reactivated in all the branches. The focus now is the party, not the state government,” he said.

According to Malaysiakini, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that Aminudin had been called to explain after allegedly losing the support of a number of state-level leaders as the state party chairman.

“The internal turmoil in PKR Negeri Sembilan and the issue of the degazettement of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve will be the main agenda items in the party’s leadership meeting this week,” he said.

Last Sunday, a group of state PKR leaders led by information chief Yusuf Tapar said a leadership change was needed to ensure the party stayed relevant, claiming that the state chief had failed to carry out plans to woo voters.

They claimed that Aminuddin was not trying to strengthen Pakatan Harapan in the state ahead of the 15th general election.
