15,549 Covid-19 cases, Sarawak has most infections

There are 1,165 patients being treated in intensive care, with 689 requiring respiratory assistance.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 15,549 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,082,876.

He said there were 17,205 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,840,453.

There are 1,165 patients in intensive care, 888 of whom were confirmed to be Covid-19 cases and 277 were suspected to be positive.

Meanwhile, 689 patients required respiratory assistance, with 401 confirmed as Covid-19 cases with the remaining 288 suspected of being positive.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases, with 2,929.

This was followed by Johor (2,208), Selangor (1,995), Sabah (1,395), Penang (1,375), Kelantan (1,214), Perak (1,120), Kedah (1,073), Terengganu (755), Pahang (634), Kuala Lumpur (382), Melaka (263), Negeri Sembilan (131), Perlis (33), Putrajaya (31), and Labuan (11).

Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 1.69% were Category 3, 4, and 5 cases.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, pronounced R-nought) stood at 0.95, with Sarawak having the highest rate of 1.11.

This was followed by Terengganu (1.05), Perak (1.04), Pahang (1.04), Johor (1.01), Penang (1.00), Perlis (0.98), Kelantan (0.97), Sabah (0.92), Melaka (0.91), Kedah (0.90), Negeri Sembilan (0.87), Putrajaya (0.87), Selangor (0.85), Kuala Lumpur (0.81), and Labuan (0).
