Head of the Selangor fire and rescue department (JBPM), Norazam Khamis, said the victims, who were aged between 16 to 20, were reported to have been trapped by a sudden surge in water flow in the river.
He said the department received a distress call at 7.55pm.
Following the call, nine rescuers from Kuala Kubu Bharu were deployed to the location, which is popular with visitors.
“Rescuers arrived at 8.27pm and found that two out of the nine men had managed to cross the river while seven of their friends were still trapped,” he said in a statement today.
Norazam said all the victims were finally successfully moved to a safer location.
