Vaccinations helping to bring down daily infections, says Masidi

Sabah records its lowest daily Covid-19 infections today, compared to the situation a month ago.

Although many have been vaccinated in Sabah, residents have been reminded to stay alert and follow all SOPs to prevent being infected.
KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Masidi Manjun has attributed the downward trend of the state’s daily infection rate to the increase in the number of people obtaining vaccines.

The state recorded its lowest daily Covid-19 infections today at 1,395 cases, its lowest since Aug 11 when 1,514 cases were detected.

After Aug 11, the daily cases soared and peaked at 3,487 cases on Aug 26.

“The downward trend is in tandem with the increase in the vaccinated population,” Masidi told FMT.

“It’s predictable but whether it’s sustainable is another issue. The recent spike in cases in Sarawak is a good reminder.

“The most useful advice is to comply strictly with all the standard operating procedures. Self-discipline is paramount.”

Masidi, who is also Sabah local government and housing minister, said overall, daily cases have dropped in many of the districts in the state.

“According to the statistics, 16 districts recorded a drop in cases while the remaining 11 districts detected an increase.

“Kota Kinabalu recorded a fairly good change with only 160 cases, which is 109 fewer than yesterday,” he said, adding Ranau, Pitas, Penampang and Kinabatangan were among the districts with lower daily infections today.

However, health authorities recorded increases in Sandakan, Kota Marudu and Kunak, among others.

Masidi said of the 1,395 cases today, 463 infections or 33.19% were backlogged cases registered two to three days late, 59 cases were  registered four to five days late and 36 cases were more than five days late.

Close contacts are still the highest contributor to the cases at 833, while symptomatic screenings accounted for 383 cases, he added.

He said the bulk of the cases today are in Category 2 (mild symptoms) at 899 infections (or 64.44%), followed by those in Category 1 at 385 cases (27.6%).

Nine cases detected were in Category 3, and seven were in the more serious Category 4 and 5.
