Govt suspends licence of lorry operator in viral accident

The Land Public Transport Agency has suspended the company operator's licence for three months.

The company that owns the lorry has also been ordered to comply with safety and health requirements.
PETALING JAYA:
The owner of a lorry that crashed into five vehicles earlier this month has had his operator’s licence suspended, according to the transport ministry.

Minister Wee Ka Siong said in a statement today that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) decided to suspend CBSB Transport Sdn Bhd’s operator’s licence for three months effective Sept 27, or until the company fully complies with its occupational safety and health industry code of practice for road transport activities (ICOP) requirements.

This was in line with Section 62 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), which states that any company that fails to comply with ICOP without a valid reason is in violation of the terms of the licence and poses safety risks to other drivers, pedestrians and the public.

Two weeks ago, lorry driver Ardi Latiff, 25, pleaded guilty when he was charged in a magistrates’ court with driving under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamine and causing an accident in Kuala Lumpur.

The accident, which went viral on social media, caused injuries to the driver of a Perodua Myvi, Nik Adlee Saha Nik Ahmad Fauzi, 45, at Jalan Segambut Utara.

Wee said the ministry viewed the accident seriously and would not tolerate non-compliance with licence and permit requirements by transport operators.

“We hope that this action serves as an example for other operators and a reminder for the broader public and commercial transport industries.”
