Man held after allegedly running red light, ramming 2 motorcyclists

The driver's blood test shows his alcohol level to be within the legal limit.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly running a red light and crashing into two motorcyclists along Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur early this morning.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said the collision occurred at around 4.27am when the two motorcyclists were crossing the junction after the traffic light had turned green.

A Honda City driven by the suspect is believed to have run a red light before crashing into the motorcyclists, aged 24 and 19.

The 24-year-old’s left leg was severed while the 19-year-old sustained fractures to his left arm and left leg. They were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

The driver sustained minor hand injuries, while a passenger in the car suffered head injuries.

The driver was arrested at a clinic in Rawang while seeking treatment.

A blood test found the driver’s alcohol level to be within the legal limit, while a urine screening test is being conducted at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Zamzuri said the case is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The incident surfaced after a video went viral on social media platform Threads.
