Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan is accused of murdering A Doraisingam, 61, and his wife A Menagah, 56, at Jalan Ampang heading towards Ampang Point at about 5.30am on May 2.
No plea was recorded before magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
The court fixed Aug 17 for the submission of post-mortem reports.
Counsel Devinder Kaur Dhaliwal and Mansheel Kaur represented Danish, while deputy public prosecutors Faizal @ Amrin Noor Hadi and Shahrizzat Amadan appeared for the prosecution.
When met after the proceedings, Doraisingam’s nephew Suresh Kumar, 47, said Danish’s family had expressed their intention to meet with the couple’s family.
“But we have yet to meet them. We are not expecting anything, except for justice to be served,” he told reporters.
He said the couple had three children, aged between 19 and 26, who were still coping with the loss of their parents.
Suresh added that his uncle had sent his wife to work at Gleneagles Hospital every morning.
