PETALING JAYA:
An independent preacher pleaded not guilty at the Selayang sessions court in Selangor to causing the death of a man at a fastfood restaurant in Desa Jaya, Kepong, last week.

Berita Harian reported that Toh Kai Lun, 30, entered his plea after the charge against him was read before judge Nor Azlin Othman.

Toh is accused of causing the death of Lim Kim Thong, 76, at Desa Jaya, Kepong, between 5.20pm and 5.40pm on May 5.

The charge was brought under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which provides for up to 10 years’ jail, a fine or both.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Iman Ahmad Sapian, while Toh was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Ernie Ahmad.

Kamarul Iman proposed bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties. Ernie asked for the amount to be lowered, as his client only had RM5,000.

The court set bail at RM8,000 with two sureties and ordered Toh to report once a month to a nearby police station.
