GPS can win two-thirds, but maybe fewer seats, says Nancy

The coalition won 72 of 82 state seats that were up for grabs in 2016.

PBB Wanita vice-chief Nancy Shukri advised voters not to reject GPS candidates for petty reasons.
PETALING JAYA:
A Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leader believes Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can win the Sarawak election with a two-thirds majority, though it might have fewer seats than the 72 it won in 2016.

PBB Wanita vice-chief Nancy Shukri estimated that GPS could win 65 of the 82 state seats up for grabs at the polls.

She clarified that her projection was not down to a lack of confidence in GPS’ strength, but merely a “safe estimation” taking into account campaigning SOPs and multi-cornered fights in most seats.

Berita Harian quoted her as admitting that while GPS could face a challenge in maintaining the status quo of 72 seats, she still hoped that voters would judge the party fairly.

She urged them not to cast their votes against GPS candidates or incumbents for petty reasons.

“Don’t let our candidate be the victim just because you don’t like the community leader in your village.

“Such actions aren’t logical because we’re choosing leaders for the state.

“Don’t be angry with our candidate just because you asked for land and didn’t get your request.

“The land doesn’t belong to the candidate.

“An elected representative’s job is just not to help with such requests,” she said.
