Political alliances pointless without long-term stability, says Umno leader

Supreme Council member Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin reminds Johor voters how the PH and PN governments had fallen in the past.

Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin says Barisan Nasional has shown that it is the only coalition that can provide long-term stability and prosperity.
PETALING JAYA:
The formation of political alliances will be pointless if they fail to establish stability in the country, says an Umno leader.

Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said the nation saw how Pakatan Harapan, comprising Bersatu, PKR, DAP and Amanah and backed by Warisan, only governed for 22 months before falling from power.

He also said the Perikatan Nasional government that took over the federal government could only last for 17 months.

“Before that, Umno and PAS cooperated under Muafakat Nasional for the sake of protecting Malay-Muslim interests, but it had also failed to establish stability.

“Based on past experiences, the Umno-led Barisan Nasional is the only political alliance that has proven to be capable of bringing stability and prosperity to the country,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Sharkar also said the current “Keluarga Malaysia” federal government was made up of a combination of various parties and was not conducive either for a stable government.

He reminded voters in the Johor elections on March 12 to make the best choice to ensure long-lasting political stability in the state.

“Before this, the state government was in a precarious situation as it only had a razor-thin majority, with 28 seats against 27 held by the opposition following the death of Kempas assemblyman Osman Sapian.

“The state government was under pressure amid an unstable political environment,” he said.

He also said the people could see that PH remained fragile after it allowed PKR to contest using its own logo in the forthcoming Johor elections.

“That decision alone clearly shows cracks within PH, which have further widened after it suffered a massive defeat in the Melaka state elections in November last year,” he said.
