Record 5,082 new Covid-19 cases in Sabah

This is the first time the state has breached the 5,000 mark.

The previous record was 4,373 cases detected on Tuesday.
KOTA KINABALU:
Covid-19 infections continued to soar in Sabah which recorded a new high of 5,082 cases in the last 24 hours.

This is 709 more than the 4,373 cases detected yesterday, which was the previous record. It is also the first time the state has breached the 5,000 mark.

Local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said the bulk of the cases, or 59.6%, were from symptomatic or community infections.

The majority of the infections were detected in the state capital with 1,086 cases, followed by Penampang (463), Tuaran (421), Papar (313) and Tawau (310).

“There are two new school clusters (while) 604 children aged below 11 were also found infected,” he said in a tweet.

However, 99.72% of the cases were deemed as Category 1 and 2, while Category 3 had three cases, Category 4 (10) and Category 5 (one).
