In response to claims by PKR’s Wong Chen, Ulya said the former coalition chairman cannot be blamed given that the reforms were a collective responsibility.
“Let me remind you, Wong Chen, Mahathir never abandoned the reforms that were planned. He was committed to the agenda and focused on changing many things,” he said in a statement today.
Ulya said a working committee, which included PH leaders, had been established to achieve PH’s manifesto proposals.
He added it was unfair to blame Mahathir and demanded that Wong Chen stop blaming others and own up to his own mistakes.
FMT reported earlier today that Wong Chen, who is Subang MP, said that the lack of political will on the part of the former prime minister had stymied reforms throughout PH’s 22 months in power.
He said the ministers were there “as sideshows or secondary to him”.
“That shouldn’t be the case, but that’s the system that we have. So, you really have to ask Mahathir why he did not (carry out) reforms in the 22 months that we had,” he said.
