KANGAR:
Thailand has agreed to open its land border crossings with Malaysia in Wang Kelian, Perlis and Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah from April 1.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was good news, especially for people in the two states.

He said health minister Khairy Jamaluddin had also been asked to discuss the immediate opening of the border crossing in Padang Besar, Perlis, with the Thai government.

He said the reopening of borders will help in the country’s recovery besides having a positive impact on the local community.

Yesterday, Ismail announced the full opening of the Malaysia-Singapore land border as well as the daily commuting route for those who work there.

“The opening of the land border will allow people to work and the SOPs no longer require quarantine or pre-departure or post-arrival testing,” he said at an event here today.

He also hoped that the SOPs in place at the Malaysia-Singapore border would be implemented at the Malaysia-Thailand border as well.

In line with the country’s transition to the endemic phase, Ismail said the government launched the Keluarga Malaysia community ambassador volunteer programme to empower communities during the transition.

“These community ambassadors will be stationed in high-risk areas that are closed and congested. They will ensure that the information on SOPs is presented accurately and effectively,” he said.
