KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah broadcasting department has apologised after its Tawau FM radio station aired the Maghrib azan (call to prayer) at 6.16pm and 6.20pm yesterday, on the first day of Ramadan.
The department’s director Zulkefli Mohd said the double broadcast was unintentional but it led to claims on social media that some listeners had broken their fast earlier.
The presenter, Mohd Safwan Junit, had apologised and admitted his mistake yesterday. He said a technical error had occurred.
The mufti of Sabah, Bungsu Aziz Jaafar, had reportedly said that those who broke their fast early after hearing the azan on the radio must make up the fast after Ramadan.
