The former prime minister’s statement came after Bersatu’s president Muhyiddin Yassin announced that his party was prepared to work with any political party to ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional in GE15.
Muhyiddin said the party was currently in the initial stage of discussions to offer a “win-win” formula to achieve that objective.
Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairman, said an understanding among political parties was important to avoid split votes, as demonstrated by the results of the Melaka and Johor state elections.
“I think PH and PN might come up with made-up tales to deceive the rakyat soon,” Najib said in a Facebook post today.
“They will say that they are not cooperating or merging and just engaging in talks to ensure a straight contest against BN for GE15.
“But that means PH and PN would have to allocate the seats among themselves.
“If they win, this would mean they would have to form a coalition post-GE15 to get the majority to form a government.
“Therefore, welcome back PH 2.0.”
Last Friday, Bernama reported PH’s secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as saying that the opposition coalition was ready to negotiate and discuss with any political party to work together in GE15.
He said this was PH’s stand, as decided by its leadership at a retreat in Port Dickson last year.
“PH is ready to adopt the negotiation approach with all parties if our strength alone is no longer possible to defeat the ruling party.
“So PH’s approach is to negotiate and discuss; as to with whom, that is open-ended. That was in the PH resolution,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
The subject of cooperating with PN for GE15 has been a contentious one among the leaders in PH, with DAP saying that the party would no longer cooperate with PN after its betrayal of PH following the Sheraton Move.
However, leaders in Amanah and PKR have expressed willingness to keep the door open for negotiations with PN under a “big tent” approach.
