We knew Zuraida was involved in PBM, says Muhyiddin

Bersatu president says Zuraida Kamaruddin was set to face the party's disciplinary committee.

Muhyiddin Yassin said Bersatu issued a show-cause letter to Zuraida Kamaruddin on May 9.
PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party knew that Zuraida Kamaruddin, who quit the party today, was involved in Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

Muhyiddin said the party had discussed her position in Bersatu following reports the Ampang MP was involved in the formation of PBM, the party led largely by former PKR leaders.

“In the wake of those reports, we issued a show-cause letter to her on May 9, which she replied on May 23,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.

“Our next step was to refer her to the party’s disciplinary board. However, since she announced her departure from the party today, her membership has been terminated immediately.”

The former prime minister thanked Zuraida for her contributions to the party.

He also said he will submit the name of a candidate for the plantation industries and commodities minister position to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Earlier today, Zuraida said she decided to leave Bersatu and join PBM following feedback from her constituents, colleagues in the government, civil society representatives and those from the business sectors.

She added that her belief in the party’s struggles and core principles drove her to join PBM.

Zuraida joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.
