The wing’s information chief Syed Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri said its relationship with PAS in Muafakat Nasional (MN) is likely to be “buried” following attacks by PAS leaders on Umno, Berita Harian reported.
Syed Johan said PAS had levelled various allegations at Umno since the Melaka elections in November.
“It looks like MN is as good as buried as PAS had begun attacking Umno in the run up to the Melaka polls in November. So we are ready to go solo and are preparing for it,” he was quoted as saying.
Umno currently holds two seats in the 36-member state assembly as part of the ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, with PAS holding 15 seats and Bersatu 6.
The opposition comprises Pakatan Harapan, which holds 11 seats through PKR
(5), Amanah (4) and DAP (2). Two other seats are held by Pejuang.
Syed Johan said Umno was prepared to field candidates in all 36 state seats.
Umno and PAS formed the MN alliance in 2020 but it has come under scrutiny, following PAS’ decision to back PN, which is led by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Umno has cut ties with Muhyiddin and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said early this month that Umno should forget about cooperating with PAS through MN at the next general election.
Last month, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party will maintain good ties with Umno in all states.
