TNB working on restoring power after blackout

The national electricity company says its technical team was investigating the cause of the outages reported in several parts of the country.

Several parts of the Klang Valley as well as other states in the peninsula were hit by a major blackout early this afternoon.
PETALING JAYA:
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is working on restoring electricity supply in several parts of the country after a major blackout this afternoon.

In a brief statement posted on its Facebook page, TNB said its technical team was investigating the cause of the blackout and was working hard to restore supply.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused users,” it said.

Several parts of the Klang Valley were hit by a major blackout amid heavy rain at about 12.45pm, leaving several areas with no electricity.

There were also reports of blackouts at several locations in Pahang, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Penang.

Netizens in Kuantan, Seremban, Manjung, Ipoh, Nilai, Perai and Sungai Petani took to Twitter to complain about the power outages in their areas.

Many questioned if this was affecting the entire country, expressing concern over the unusual occurrence.

An aide to energy and natural resources minister Takiyuddin Hassan said they were looking into the matter and would provide an update accordingly.

In a separate statement later, TNB said power was restored to areas outside the Klang Valley within 40 minutes.

The energy company said it would continue to update consumers on the situation.
