PETALING JAYA: Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin has joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
According to a report in Berita Harian, party president Abang Johari Openg confirmed that Willie’s application to join PBB was accepted today.
“His application was accepted today with no commitments or conditions,” the daily quoted him as saying.
Willie, who is the deputy plantation industries and commodities minister, had submitted an application to join PBB several months ago.
He was one of 11 PKR MPs who left the party following the Sheraton Move in February 2020.
He was appointed deputy minister in the Perikatan Nasional-led government in March 2020 by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and maintained his position when Ismail Sabri Yaakob took charge of the government in August 2021.
PBB is the mainstay of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalition and holds 48 of the coalition’s 76 seats in the state assembly.
