DAP respects constitution, monarchy says Anwar

The opposition leader brushes off claims DAP would control the government should Pakatan Harapan come to power.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says DAP respects the Federal Constitution and the Malay rulers.
IPOH:
Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed the notion that DAP would be in control of the government if the coalition won the general election.

Speaking at a pre-election rally here, Anwar also defended DAP, saying the party respected the Federal Constitution and the Malay rulers. DAP’s rivals have claimed the party was anti-Malay.

“In our government, the prime minister is Malay, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is Malay, and so are the menteris besar. Don’t worry, DAP is our faithful ally,” he said.

He said that while he as a Malay would lead the government if PH won GE15, he would be a leader for all.

Anwar, who will be contesting the Tambun seat, welcomed some 480 Tambun MIC members from eight branches who quit the party to join PKR.

Hulu Kinta assemblyman Arafat Varisai Mahamad, who was present at the event, claimed the ex-MIC members were disappointed that the community in Tambun had been neglected.

“They have faith in Anwar’s leadership,” he said, adding under PH, the community’s welfare will be taken care of.
