The country’s longest-serving MP lost by 163 votes.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has been Gua Musang MP since 1974 when the constituency was named Ulu Kelantan.
PETALING JAYA:
The country’s longest-serving MP, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, lost the Gua Musang seat, a constituency which he has served for close to 50 years.

The Umno stalwart, who is fondly known as Ku Li, lost by 163 votes to PAS’ Azizi Abu Naim, who secured 21,826 votes, the Election Commission said.

Tengku Razaleigh, who was seeking a 13th term, only managed 21,663 votes in a four-cornered fight.

The 85-year-old has been Gua Musang MP since 1974 when the constituency was named Ulu Kelantan.

In 2018, he won by a majority of 3,913 votes against two others from PAS and PKR.

Last year, he told FMT that he would bow out of politics after GE15.

One of the few members of royalty to have thrown their hats into the political arena, he is the great-grandson of Sultan Muhammad III of Kelantan and also the granduncle of the state’s current ruler, Sultan Muhammad V.
