
“We have received a letter from Istana Negara with specific instructions on the requirements we need to fulfill according to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” said the former prime minister at a press conference.
“We will have a meeting tomorrow and hope to have an answer by the evening. We will have to comply with Istana Negara’s instructions.”
The Election Commission website states that Pakatan Harapan has 70 seats, with Barisan Nasional 29, Gabungan Parti Sarawak 22, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah six, DAP five, Wairsan three, and Muda and PBM one each. Two independents have also won seats.
The winners of all 220 seats have yet to be finalised.
In his speech, Muhyiddin said that PN is ready to work with any party to form a government that is “clean, stable and caring”.
However, he said these parties have to be aligned with the coalition’s principles.
He insisted, though, that PN would not work with PH.
“The response of parties from Sabah and Sarawak has been very great for now,” he said.
Thanking all those who voted for the coalition, Muhyiddin said that the party’s “unexpected haul” was largely due to the support from young voters.
“This success is beyond our expectations,” he said.
Muhyiddin also said that he is ready to work with any party. However, he said “there is no possibility of PN working with Pakatan Harapan to form the government”.
He said PN hoped to create a more stable political atmosphere after forming a new government.
During the press conference, there were chants from the crowd of “Tolak Zahid” and “Tolak BN”
PN has scored a landslide victory in Perlis and will form a new state government after winning 14 of the 15 state assembly seats.
In the previous state assembly, BN held 10 seats, Pakatan Harapan 3 seats and PN 2 seats.
